To guarantee seamless, efficient livestock trade across the Nullarbor, AWN management and clients from the East recently embarked on a critical tour of Western Australian operations. The team, hosted by WA Wool & Livestock State Manager, Greg Tilbrook, included South Australia’s Murray Mallee Livestock & Rural Real Estate Manager, Matt Lewis, and Mallee View Props clients, Kevin, Nathan Heidrich, and Peter McConnell.

The significant visit was a rare, proactive step that substantively strengthened AWN’s national network. Collaboration is critical now due to the high volume of livestock currently being moved across the Nullarbor. Ultimately, the trip clearly demonstrated the robust, nationwide support network available to every client.

Greg Tilbrook emphasised the objective to “build the network with the east.” This unified approach is essential for providing AWN clients and representatives with broader options, helping them achieve the best possible financial returns regardless of location. The WA team shared critical, current information regarding stock levels and market expectations. This on-the-ground intelligence is vital for Eastern buyers seeking to secure livestock from Western sources.

Matt Lewis, mentioned the primary goal of the cross-country travel was to establish a strong “relationship of trust” with the WA team. This confidence is paramount, allowing his clients to execute transactions involving the purchase of stock sight unseen, a necessity for efficient Nullarbor trade. In addition to touring selling centres, valuable time was spent on-farm, which Lewis highlighted as a “great way to build rapport.” He confirmed the quality of the new season lambs, noting they “have had a great start to life and will be keenly sought after.”

Both management representatives agreed that nurturing these connections is fundamental to future success. Tilbrook committed to maintaining ‘constant contact with Matt’ to ensure continuous information flow, empowering agents and clients to make fully informed decisions concerning the interstate movement of stock. Lewis asserted that because AWN operates on a ‘National stage,’ these developed networks facilitate a broader livestock procurement system and provide critical support for large-scale inter-state trading. Lewis summarised the fundamental value of the journey: it was simply about making the effort and meeting the people, all of which were just fantastic.

This exceptional visit reinforced AWN’s commitment to personal connectivity and substantively strengthened the company’s network, thereby guaranteeing a cohesive, well-informed strategy that effectively supports clients by actively managing the logistical demands of national livestock movement.
