Keen Victorian livestock agent Jacob Brennan recently put his skills to the test as a finalist in the Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association (ALPA) Young Auctioneers Competition, which is recognised nationally throughout the Livestock and Property industry.
Jacob attended an auctioneering school in Inglis, Victoria, where he qualified as one of ten finalists to compete in the competition, which is a key promotion avenue for young agents, fulfilling the industry’s ambition to produce and showcase high performance.
One of the many rising young talents at AWN, Jacob said the competition offered a wonderful learning experience and was a great opportunity to network with fellow young auctioneers.
“We conduct mock clearing sales as well as mock sheep and cattle sales, which makes it a bit more of a challenge. Among other things, the judges are looking for clarity, values, and diction when auctioneering,’’ he said.
Based in Shepparton in Victoria at AWN’s Tatura branch, AWN Nelson, 24-year-old Jacob is clearly multi-skilled as during this interview he was flat out in the sheepyards with gates clanging in the background but didn’t miss a beat when expressing his enthusiasm for the competition.
“I really enjoy it and would certainly recommend it to others,’’ he said.
AWN is a platinum sponsor of ALPA, with the young auctioneers’ competition contributing towards meeting the group’s charter of education and professional development. AWN is proud to be associated with an event that adds to its team’s strength and experience and fosters young talent who, in turn, can better service AWN clients.
