Working with an independent, Australian-owned company has been embraced by a team of well-known livestock specialists and their clients resulting in the expansion of AWN Livestock and Property into the Wangaratta region.

Branch manager Peter Dargan, a well-respected name synonymous with the livestock agency business for more than 30 years, is excited about the new venture and the fact his staff have joined him is testament to the positivity and commitment surrounding the move.

“I started in the agency game in Wangaratta 31 years ago and after just 12 months started my own business. I sold this business just six years ago. I didn’t like the corporate set-up we were becoming so I was pleased to make the move with AWN,’’ he said.

AWN, being an independent Australian company, really appeals to Peter and his staff as the money stays in our country.

“Our clients are very excited about that too. The previous pastoral house we were with saw the money going overseas and the clients weren’t happy about that so we are getting excellent feedback from them about this venture,’’ he said.

“Our entire team has embraced coming on board with AWN as they are really pleased to be involved with an Australian company. It makes it more local and it’s like being back running our own business.’’

Mr Dargan said it’s an excellent time to launch a business.

“We’ve had a very good Autumn break so the stock are doing well and the feed is growing well. We held our first sheep sale yesterday at Corowa saleyards with a very strong market indicative of the low sheep numbers,’’ Mr Dargan said on Monday.

Mr Dargan and his team, which includes company agent Vincent McKenzie, livestock specialists Ryan Hussey, Tom Davies and Andrew McIntyre and administration officer Karen Sawyer, will be kept busy with sheep sales at Corowa on Mondays, NVLX at Barnawatha on Tuesdays and Thursdays, cattle in Wangaratta on Thursdays, monthly store cattle sales and other special sales at Wangaratta.

While the expansion into livestock in Wangaratta is a new venture, AWN is well known in the area with sheep and wool specialist Peter Byrne having been with the company since 2003 and having sold clients’ wool through AWN since 2002.

“I am very pleased Peter is coming on as manager as he provides the continuity AWN enjoys in Wangaratta,’’ Mr Byrne said.

“I have had an association with Peter since coming to Wangaratta 31 years ago and we are pleased his entire team have come across. Peter has a large, established and loyal clientele, many of whom are already clients of mine on the wool side. This will enable them to deal with one entity to complete their livestock transactions.

“I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with Peter both personally and professionally and bringing the best possible service to our clients in the future.’’
