It’s not often you come across two people who are experts in their field and who can combine to offer more than 60 years’ experience and knowledge but that is exactly what Australian Wool Network (AWN) has achieved with its commitment to expanding its livestock division.

Peter Hargreaves has recently joined livestock specialist Scott Bremner, who is based in Armidale, and the pair makes a formidable team ready to ensure clients are getting the best advice and returns possible from their livestock operations.

Based in Nyngan, Peter comes to AWN with an extensive livestock industry background in the western area of NSW. From merchandise to stockman, livestock sales to livestock co-ordinator and branch management positions he has done it all in the more isolated rural areas of Nyngan, Ivanhoe, Broken Hill, Brewarrina, Wellington and Bourke.

AWN has recognised his extensive experience and knowledge with his appointment to its dedicated livestock division and Peter is looking forward to playing his role in such a client-focused business.

“AWN is a really nice bunch of people who make up a very progressive company offering a lot of opportunities,’’ he said.

“The company has a good, wholesome culture and there are no boundaries. Nothing is too much trouble and they make decisions and get on with it and I want to be part of that. They know what they want and where they want to go and I want to help build and draw attention to the livestock side of the business.

“As part of my role I would also love the opportunity to pass on my knowledge to younger people in the industry and build a good, solid livestock business while doing a great job for our clients.’’

Born and bred in Cowra where his father was a stock and station agent for more than 30 years, Peter moved to Nyngan in 1983 and clearly has a passion for the bush.

“The warmer the climate, the warmer the people,’’ he says with a laugh. “I enjoy the open spaces and the people are always happy to see you.’’

“Years ago, before the advent of the internet, the world wasn’t such a small place and going to visit and work with these people helped alleviate the isolation. I used to run sheep sales around the bush and they became real social events providing a great opportunity for people to come together.’’

As a level one sheep and cattle assessor for AuctionsPlus, Peter is a big supporter of the online sale concept which can attract between 20,000 -30,000 sheep per sale while the traditional store sales struggle to draw numbers.

However, in saying that, he chalks up many, many kilometres every week getting out and about talking to clients.

“I am willing to travel wherever a job needs doing and I’m currently covering an area which includes Collarenebri, Bourke, Brewarrina, Nyngan and Tullamore.’’

AWN’s expansion in the livestock industry goes hand in hand with the trust clients put in their wool agent and the appointment of Petes and Scott comes in response to a call from clients to be able to deal with the one entity for all their livestock business needs.

In offering a quality livestock service both Peter and Scott are more than happy to speak to any AWN clients nationally at any time with the company embracing private treaty between clients and processors, AuctionsPlus, feedlot operations and seed stock sales.
