AWN Expands its Board

AWN Chairman Brendon Lunney today announced the appointment of John Maher as a non-executive director to the AWN Board.

Mr Lunney said that Mr Maher’s appointment would be invaluable as AWN continues to grow in the wool and livestock industries.

“John’s vast executive leadership and board directorship experience within agricultural industry will be a great asset to our business as we continue to expand and deliver value to our clients.”

In taking up the position of director, Mr Maher said “I am extremely excited and humbled to be asked to be part of AWN at a time of so much opportunity in the agricultural sector. Having been involved in the rural services industry for almost 30 years, I am really looking forward to contributing to the future growth and development of AWN and their people.”

Mr Maher has been Group CEO of the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) since June 2016. Prior to heading up the ILSC Group, he was Managing Director and Chief Executive of the ASX listed Ruralco Holdings Limited for nine years. Prior to Ruralco, Mr Maher was an executive at Wesfarmers Limited for ten years and AWB for two years. Mr Maher has served on a number of board and industry organisations including Landmark Operations Ltd, Agfarm, Australian Live Export Corporation, AuctionsPlus, National Farmer’s Federation Member Council, Australian Agriculture Blueprint Advisory Committee and Autism Awareness Australia.

Mr Maher has an honours degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Sydney, an MBA from AGSM (University of NSW), studied global agribusiness at Harvard Business School, completed the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD Business School in France and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Maher joins fellow directors Brendon Lunney, Barry Walker, Ben Barlow and John Colley in shaping the company’s future in what is an exciting time for agriculture.
